Open geospatial data

Open datasets

These datasets come from our projects. Each one comes with its accuracy information and a suggested citation.

Land cover 2025, northern Afghanistan

Area and period: Balkh, Jawzjan, Samangan, Sar-e-Pul, Kunduz and Takhar provinces, 2025.

Content: 11 land cover classes aligned with the FAO LCCS 2010 framework, at 10 m resolution, with overall accuracy by province.

Format: GeoTIFF · 10 m resolution

Seasonal crop maps 2023, Khulm Watershed

Area and period: Khulm Watershed, spring and summer 2023.

Content: crop type maps for each season at about 10 m resolution (87% and 88% accuracy), with crop area statistics.

Drought indicators 2001–2020, Northern River Basin

Area and period: Northern River Basin, seasonal and annual, 2001–2020.

Content: SPI, land surface temperature, snow cover (NDSI), NDVI and VHI maps derived from NASA POWER and MODIS data.

Our open data are shared under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence. You may use, share and adapt them, including for commercial work, as long as you credit LSGA.

Accuracy and limits

Every dataset comes with its accuracy assessment. The maps show land cover and conditions at the stated resolution. They are not survey-grade maps and do not show legal or administrative boundaries.
